Bloom ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application ("Bloom" or the "App"). Please read this policy carefully. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address. We use this solely to create and manage your account.
Usage Data
We collect information about how you interact with the App, including pages viewed, features used, prayers listened to, and time spent. This helps us improve the experience.
Spiritual Journey Data
If you use the Bloom AI assistant, we collect the voice recordings and text messages you send to it, along with your conversations, prayer requests, focus areas, growth goals, and journal reflections. Because this information can reveal religious or spiritual beliefs, we treat it as sensitive and handle it with the highest level of care. It is stored to personalize your experience and, when you use the assistant, is shared with OpenAI as described in "AI Features and OpenAI" below.
Device Information
We may collect device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers for analytics and troubleshooting purposes.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the App
- To personalize your experience (daily verses, prayer recommendations, spiritual insights)
- To power the Bloom AI assistant with context from your journey
- To send important service-related communications
- To analyze usage patterns and improve our features
- To detect, prevent, and address technical issues
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We may share data only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: We use trusted third-party services (e.g., cloud hosting, analytics) that process data on our behalf under strict confidentiality agreements.
- AI processing (OpenAI): When you use the Bloom AI assistant, your voice recordings, messages, conversation transcripts, and relevant spiritual-profile context are sent to OpenAI to generate responses and personalize your experience. See "AI Features and OpenAI" below for exactly what is shared and how OpenAI protects it.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, safety, or property.
AI Features and OpenAI
Bloom's AI assistant (both voice and text) is powered by OpenAI, a third-party artificial-intelligence provider. The first time you open the assistant, Bloom asks for your explicit consent before any of your data is shared with OpenAI.
What we share with OpenAI
- Audio recordings of your voice while you speak to the assistant
- Text messages you type to the assistant
- Relevant context from your spiritual profile — prayer requests, focus areas, growth goals, recurring themes, and reflections
- Your first name, used to personalize how the assistant greets you
How OpenAI uses it
OpenAI processes this data to transcribe your speech, generate the assistant's responses, return them to you in real time, summarize/title conversations, and extract spiritual insights used to personalize your profile. Data is sent to OpenAI only when you use the AI assistant or when Bloom processes the conversation you just had with the assistant.
How OpenAI protects it
We share this data with OpenAI under its API terms, which provide protections at least equivalent to those described in this policy. OpenAI does not use data submitted through its API to train or improve its models. It may retain this data for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse, after which it is deleted unless retention is legally required. Your choice
Sharing data with OpenAI is required only for the AI assistant. If you do not consent, you can still use the rest of Bloom — including reading scripture, listening to prayers, and viewing your saved journey — without the assistant.
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on secure servers with encryption at rest and in transit. We implement industry-standard security measures including HTTPS, encrypted databases, and access controls. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the App's services. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and data
- Export your data in a portable format
- Opt out of non-essential data collection

Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such data, we will take steps to delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy in the App and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
